Dancer Farm's Sip & Snip in Plumstead Is the NJ Summer Night You Keep Missing

POV: you found the most adorable summer day trip in New Jersey, and it was hiding in Plumstead the whole time.

Friday night I went to Sip & Snip at Dancer Farm, and I am going to be honest with you — I went to check it out and stayed until the light went gold. There was a band. There was wine and sangria, beer and seltzers. There was food, nothing fussy, exactly the amount of food you want when the actual point is standing in a field with scissors. And there were flowers absolutely everywhere.

You cut your own, or you cheat and grab a bouquet

Here is how it works: you walk out into rows of zinnias and celosia and wildflowers, and you cut what you want. Pink, coral, that green zinnia that does not look real, the hot magenta one that makes the whole bunch pop. If you are not in the mood to work for it, they have bouquets already made up at the stand. No judgment either way. I saw plenty of people in the picnic area with a cup in one hand and a bucket in the other.

The monarchs are the part nobody warns you about. They are all over the zinnias at golden hour and they do not spook easily, which means you are suddenly the person crouched in a flower row taking forty photos of a butterfly. That was me. I regret nothing.

What Friday night actually looks like

• Live music while you pick
• Wine and sangria, beer and seltzers
• Food, plus picnic areas to sit and use it
• Local honey from the farm
• Photo ops set up around the fields
• Flowers, obviously, everywhere

People have gotten engaged in these fields. I believe it. At about 6 PM with the band going and the whole place lit up pink, it is not a stretch.

Why this one is worth the drive

It is affiliated with Laurita Winery, and there is a shuttle that runs between the two, so you can make it a whole evening instead of one stop. And it does not end with summer — Dancer Farm runs festivals through the fall, pumpkin picking included, so put them on your list now and you will be set through October.

This is the kind of place you go to just to see what it is, and then spend the drive home annoyed at yourself for not coming three summers ago. Grab a friend, wear shoes you do not care about, and go cut your own flowers.
