Zoni’s Coal-Fired Pizza in Sea Girt Is Worth Putting on Your Radar

Thin crust, that beautiful coal-fired char and plenty of cheese: Jennifer Nangano says Zoni’s Sea Girt location deserves a spot on your pizza list.

There’s just something about coal-fired pizza that hits differently, and Zoni’s Brooklyn Brick definitely delivers.

You get that thin crust, the char around the edges and the kind of slice that still holds up when you pick it up. Crispy where it should be, saucy where it counts, and not buried under so much stuff that you forget you ordered pizza.

This is pizza. It does not need a presentation.

Put the Sea Girt location on your radar

I think Zoni’s is one of those places people around Central Jersey should know about — especially if you love a thin, beautifully charred crust.

The Sea Girt restaurant is right on Highway 35, and it is the location I would send you to check out. Walk in hungry. That part matters.

The pizza is the reason you go

Look at that pie. The crust is thin with real color on it, the cheese goes all the way out where it belongs, and the basil and tomato do not look like they were added as an afterthought.

Coal-fired pizza should have some char. That is the point. If you are looking for a pale, floppy slice with no personality, this is not that.

And yes, Zoni’s has more than pizza. The menu goes into pasta, sandwiches, salads and other Italian favorites. The photographed baked dish comes out covered in bubbling cheese with crisp, browned edges — exactly the kind of thing you order for the table and then quietly stop sharing.

Yes, there is something green

If you need to balance all of that cheese with a salad, they can handle that too.

This one came piled with spinach, strawberries, blueberries, crumbled cheese and toasted nuts, with dressing on the side. It is fresh, colorful and substantial enough that it does not feel like the sad obligation sitting next to your pizza.

Jennifer’s verdict

If you love pizza — especially a thin crust with that coal-fired char — Zoni’s is definitely worth checking out.

There are two locations, Sea Girt and Middletown, so you have options. But if Sea Girt is convenient for you, go support this one. Get the pizza. Add something cheesy for the table. Order the salad if it makes you feel responsible.

Then stop pretending you are only having one slice.
