Peanut Butter Pie
The Black Cat Tavern · Hyannis, MA

Every summer, the road to Nantucket runs through one non-negotiable pit stop: The Black Cat Tavern in Hyannis, right on the harbor across from the ferry docks. Boats bobbing, ropes creaking, the smell of the water — and inside, a bar that has been getting it right for decades.
The play is always the same. Skip the hostess line. Walk straight to the bar. Grab two seats. Order drinks before the coats come off.
Then we did the damage: lobster bisque, calamari, entrees. By the time the plates cleared, we were stuffed — the kind of stuffed where you loosen a notch and swear off food until Tuesday.
That's when the bartender leaned in and said the four words that ruin every diet:
"Save room for the peanut butter pie."
Jennifer and I locked eyes. You know the look. The should-we-or-shouldn't-we look. The one where you already know the answer but you're pretending to weigh it.
Reader — we ordered the pie.
And it was absolutely fantastic. 100% worth the cheat.
Here's why this thing wrecked us in the best way:
- Cold, creamy peanut butter filling — not rock-hard frozen, not room-temp mush. That perfect medium-cold texture where it holds its shape but melts the second it hits your tongue.
- Oreo crust on the bottom for that dark chocolate crunch that cuts the richness.
- Whipped cream piled to the side with a lazy drizzle of chocolate syrup across the plate.
The cold filling is the whole game. Every bite hits rich and heavy, then the temperature resets your palate and you're right back in for another. Dessert as ambush.
We didn't need it. We didn't plan on it. We would order it again tomorrow.
The Black Cat Tavern peanut butter pie? Worth the Cheat. No debate.
