1. Conca del Sogno

Nerano, Amalfi Coast, Italy

Why it's special: A family-run beach-club restaurant accessible almost exclusively by yacht from Capri or Positano. Dana White's pick as one of the great restaurants in the world. Summer regulars include Jennifer Lopez, Tom Brady, Heidi Klum, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Sofia Vergara. The signature dish is spaghetti alla Nerano — pasta with zucchini and provolone del monaco — arguably the most famous single pasta dish on the Amalfi Coast.

Where to stay: Il San Pietro di Positano, a cliffside hideaway 20 minutes away and the Amalfi Coast's most discreet luxury address. Its private beach club is where the Clooneys, Julia Roberts, and Barbra Streisand have quietly stayed for decades.

2. Aman Venice

Grand Canal, Venice, Italy

Why it's special: A 16th-century palazzo turned 24-room hotel on the Grand Canal, with a hidden jetty entrance that lets guests slip in unphotographed. George and Amal Clooney were married here in 2014. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez took over the entire hotel for their 2025 wedding — the Kardashians, Oprah, and Leonardo DiCaprio all stayed on-site. Suite rates start around $4,000 and reach $12,700 per night.

Where to stay: The hotel is the destination. Nothing else on the Grand Canal offers the same level of private jetty, walled garden, and staff-to-guest ratio.

3. Amangiri

Canyon Point, Utah

Why it's special: A 600-acre resort dropped into the Navajo desert between the Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion — with just 34 suites and a pavilion pool wrapped around a natural rock escarpment. The Kardashians have made it a family birthday tradition; Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were early regulars; Justin and Hailey Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande have all stayed. Rates run $3,700–$6,900 per night, all-inclusive.

Where to stay: Amangiri itself, or its adults-only tented sister property Camp Sarika — ten pavilions with private plunge pools, tucked further into the canyons.

4. Cotton House

Mustique, St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Why it's special: The only hotel on Mustique — a private three-mile Caribbean island owned collectively by its resident villa-owners, who happen to include Mick Jagger, Tommy Hilfiger, and (until recently) the Prince and Princess of Wales. Princess Margaret's honeymoon villa still flies the royal flag when Windsors are in residence. The island has strict paparazzi bans and its own private airline. Just 17 rooms and cottages.

Where to stay: The Cotton House itself — a converted 18th-century cotton warehouse designed by Oliver Messel. Or rent one of the island's celebrity-owned villas directly through the Mustique Company.

5. Nihi Sumba

Sumba Island, Indonesia

Why it's special: A 27-villa resort on a remote Indonesian island an hour's flight east of Bali — named the best hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure two years in a row. Wild horses gallop on the private beach. There's a legendary surf wave (Occy's Left) limited to 15 riders a day. Jennifer Lawrence honeymooned here. David and Victoria Beckham stayed with their kids and volunteered at the local school — no one recognized them.

Where to stay: Nihi itself. The five-villa Mandaka estate is the private compound the owner uses; when he's not in residence, it rents for $12,745 per night.

6. Belmond Splendido & Splendido Mare

Portofino, Italy

Why it's special: A hilltop 16th-century monastery overlooking the tiny fishing harbor of Portofino — the sister property Splendido Mare sits down at the water's edge on the piazzetta. Jackie O honeymooned here with Onassis. Beyoncé has arrived with an entourage. The Baronessa Suite runs €11,000 per night; standard rooms from €2,300. Portofino itself has just 400 residents and is car-free.

Where to stay: The Splendido if you want the sweeping cliffside pool and terrace; Splendido Mare if you want to walk out your door directly into the harbor.

7. Aman Kyoto

Kyoto, Japan

Why it's special: A hidden forest garden and 26-room ryokan-style pavilion set on 80 acres of moss and cedar in northern Kyoto, once the private garden of a textile magnate. Steaming onsen baths, minimalist stone rooms, private tea ceremonies. This is where CEOs and tech founders quietly go when they want three days of nothing.

Where to stay: Aman itself. There is no better base in Kyoto, and the property is walking distance from three of the city's most important temples.

8. Explora Patagonia

Torres del Paine, Chile

Why it's special: An all-inclusive lodge planted at the edge of Lake Pehoe, staring directly at the granite spires of Torres del Paine — arguably the single most dramatic view from any hotel window on earth. Explora pioneered the “adventure with luxury” model in South America; the lodge has its own stable of horses, guides for every trail level, and open-air hot tubs facing the mountains.

9. The Point

Upper Saranac Lake, Adirondacks, New York

Why it's special: Built in the 1930s by William Avery Rockefeller II as his private “Great Camp” on 75 acres of Adirondack shoreline. Just 11 rooms across four original log buildings — every room has a lake view and a wood fireplace. Guests are on a first-name basis, share meals family-style, and dress for dinner twice a week. All-inclusive from $2,650 per night with all meals, wines, and unlimited use of the lake and grounds. Adults-only. A five-hour drive from New York City — no plane required.

Where to stay: The Point itself. Ask for the Boathouse room — winterized, glass on three sides, over the water.

10. Chateau Marmont

West Hollywood, California

Why it's special: The most storied celebrity hideaway in America — a 1929 castle on Sunset Boulevard where Howard Hughes hid, Led Zeppelin lived, John Belushi died in a bungalow, and where today's A-list still comes to escape their own city. Members-only bar. Notoriously no-photo policy inside. The bungalows out back rent for the price of a Manhattan apartment. This is the U.S. equivalent of Il San Pietro — discretion is the product.

Where to stay: A garden bungalow if you can get one — they're detached, they have their own kitchens, and they're how the regulars stay.
